There is something about this young man singing this particular song that is so beautiful. His voice, his manner, his old soul - I don't know what but I have listened to this song at least 20 times just this evening. I am an old soul, too, so maybe it's that his voice speaks to my old soul. I love this song. I got on You Tube and listened to the Avett Brothers version, which is very good, and also Roger Miller's version, which is excellent. But there's just something about Ranford's version that is very moving. Maybe it's the simple truth and honesty of the song itself and the way he sings it. Maybe it's it rings true for me who is one of those people who has always felt like this. "Funny I don't fit. Tell me where have all the average people gone?". Wow. I have a feeling that I'll be listening to Ranford when I'm very old and hard of hearing and I'll be telling people to turn that boy up so I can hear him better.
